Filling vacant spaces doesn’t have to be difficult. Halifax is full of beautiful and underutilized public spaces, like the historic Granville Mall. Despite being home to local businesses, restaurants, a college and office buildings in the Downtown core, Granville Mall is a quiet and underutilized space. By bringing students, Downtown workers, tourists, and other community members together, we can foster engagement.
Bringing craft markets and food vendors to a quiet area brings people to the space. By holding events in these underutilized areas, visitors can engage with the people and the local businesses around them. If people experience a successful market, they will be more likely to return to the area in the future, supporting the permanent businesses and promoting a sense of vibrancy in Granville Mall. Stay tuned in August and September 2017 for the craft market!
